3 June 2014, as part of the opening event  of the  exhibition From the Coolest Corner: Nordic Jewellery at the Röhsska Museum

Mah Rana – Meanings and Attachments

Wear a piece of jewellery when visiting the museum and take part in UK jewellery artist Mah Rana’s project Meanings and Attachments. The participants are photographed individually and are asked to write down the story of the piece of jewellery they wear. Mah Rana’s mobile photo studio is installed at the Röhsska Museum on Tuesday, June 3, from 4pm to 7pm, in connection to the opening of From the Coolest Corner – Nordic Jewellery. All ages are welcome to the photography session, but children under 18 must have parental permission to take part. A selection of images from Meanings and Attachments will be displayed at the Röhsska Museum during the summer.

Photography Session with Mah Rana from 4pm to 7pm
In connection to the opening, the Röhsska Museum houses a photography session with UK jewellery artist Mah Rana from 4pm to 7pm on June 3. All visitors wearing a piece of jewellery can take part and have their photograph taken by Mah Rana. Participants are asked to also share the story about the jewellery they wear and what it means to them. The photo session is part of Mah Rana’s ongoing project Meanings and Attachments, which she has run since 2002.

Mah Rana will also conduct photo sessions at  Blå Stället, Angered, on June 5, 2014 and at Skövde Cultural Centre, Skövde, on June 6, 2014.

23rd November 2012_ Meanings and Attachments (Tähendused ja Kiindumused) was held in Tallinn as part of the Applied Arts Triennial.


The 6th Applied Arts Triennial was curated by Love Jönsson and hosted by the Tallinn Applied Art Triennial Society at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design. the exhibition runs until 3 February 2013.






Meanings and Attachments now has a online participatory version - open to everyone to take part in.




Jewellery is Life highlights the ways we use jewellery to mark occasions and events, significant or the everyday. Through jewellery, issues of value, communication, personal and collective histories are explored. This global project reflects the importance of owning, giving and wearing jewellery throughout our lives.

This includes Meanings and Attachments,(2002-present) an ongoing written/audio and photographic record of people’s personal connections to the jewellery that they wear.
